S.S. AMICUS, glass negative

A fine study of the 3,660 gross ton steamer Amicus arriving at Cardiff, c.1936. She was built on the Tyne in 1925 for W. H. Seager's Tempus Shipping Co. Ltd., Cardiff. Seager was a native of Ilfracombe who established himself as a chandler at Cardiff in 1892, later entering into shipowning in 1904. The Amicus was lost on 19 December 1940 when she was torpedoed by an Italian submarine off the coast of Co. Mayo, Ireland.
