Plate, soft-paste porcelain; standing on a straight sided foot rim, cushion moulded and slightly curved spreading sides; lobed lip moulded with c-scrolls and ribbon-tied flowers and foliage, groove moulded cavetto; painted in the style of Meissen, with a central shaped cartouche containing a harbour scene - figures, boats and ruined columns in the foreground, and boats in the distance, - edged with gilt strapwork embellished with puce scrolls, and trellis and fish scale patterns; six small harbour vignettes with figures around the edge, within each c-scroll, dark sepia enamel used for the foreground and pale puce for the distance; c-scroll moulding detailed in gilt, and the ribbon-tied flowers and foliage detailed in puce; gilt lip.
This plate was made at Nantgarw but decorated in London.The plate is painted with a harbour scene in the style of eighteenth century Meissen.
