P.S. GLEN GOWER, photograph
Group of people on board the Glen Gower as she was about to be launched at the Ailsa Shipbuilding Co's yard at Troon on 14 February 1922. The gentleman in the light raincoat on the right of the photograph is Capt. Alec Campbell. On his right is Mrs Peter Campbell (Cpt Peter was in Bristol with flu). On her right is Ethel, Capt Alec's wife, holding the beribboned bottle of champagne with which she launched the ship. On her right is the Ailsa Co's Technical Manager, Mr William Steele Watson, known as 'Paddle' Watson after he became infected with Capt Peter Campbell's enthusiasm for paddle steamers.
1922-1960. Glen Gower was renamed HMS Glenmore in June 1941 and taken into service for World War II.
