Weighing scales
Weighing scales, spring balance type, made of iron and brass. Works on the principle of the stretched metal returning to its original position when the load is removed. It consists of a C-shaped flat steel spring, with an indicator attached, which under load extends, moving the pointer over a sickle -shaped graduated scale of brass. There are two different scales, one on each face of the brass. The scales were reputedly used to weight pig carcasses and piglets. The carcasses were weighed using the larger hook, the piglet in a bag attached to the smaller hook. The item was found on an allotment at Rhydfelin, Pontypridd by its donor, who kept pigs himself during the Second World War. GB 6/5/11
