Sullivan Ironclad Tubinair Machines, lantern slide
A Sullivan Ironclad Tubinair Machines being pulled up to the face by the chain haulage in a 3-foot seam in the Midlands. The fast haulage is in use which enables the machine to be pulled at a speed of about 15 feet per minute. The central of the machine is obtained entirely through the friction clutch without stopping or starting the motor. In this picture the man's right hand is on the friction clutch lever. The haulage chain had been passed through the special hook at the jib end of the machine in order to pull this end around properly.
