M.V. SYLVAFIELD, glass negative

Built 1925 by Laing & Sons Ltd, Sunderland for Hunting & Son Ltd, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. She was torpedoed and sunk on 15 Aug 1940 by U-51 about 200 miles west of Glasgow while en route from Halifax, Nova Scotia loaded with 7860 tons of fuel oil. She was a straggler from Convoy HX-62. Three of the 39 crew members were lost. Captain J E King and 19 crew members were picked up by a Belgian trawler and landed at Fleetwood. 16 other crew were picked up by HMS NEWLAND and landed at Tobermory.
