Roman samian bowl, stamped
The piece, slightly burnt, is in orange micaceous fabric with a bright orange glaze, typical of Lezoux ware of the first century. The stamp occurs in Period IB at Fishbourne. Atepomarus's forms include Ritt 5, 8, 24 and 29. First century Lezoux ware reached Flavian Wales and just occurs at a few Agricolan foundations, so its final import fell about AD 75-80. Atepomorus was not one of the latest producers and this piece may be put c AD 50-70. The form is uncertain, too large for 24 etc it may be from a hemispherical undecorated bowl.
