S.S. LAWRENCE VICTORY, glass negative
Three quarter Starboard Bow view of S.S LAWRENCE VICTORY, c.1948.
Whereas the Liberty ship was the standard American tramp-type vessel of the Second world war, the victory ship was its cargo liner equivalent. The Lawrence Victory was built at Portland, Oregon, in 1945; these vessels had a standard gross tonnage of 7,607 and had steam turbine engines capable of driving the ship at 16 knots. When this view was taken at Cardiff in 1948, the Lawrence Victory was a unit of the US Army transport fleet.
