Roman wooden stave
A larch stave used for a cooper's tub. It has a groove near one end and a chamfered top edge (suggesting the tub was formed from an old barrel). The outside surface has faint stains which mark the position of three bands.
Stave from a Roman barrel, 60-400 CE. It is from Segontium fort in Caernarfon, north-west Wales.
