British War Medal
British War Medal. Silver with orange silk ribbon with white, black and blue edging. Obverse has image of King George V and inscription. Reverse depicts a male figure on horseback trampling the eagle shield of the Central Powers. Inscription on edge. Sent to the parents of Private David John Griffiths, a tinplate worker from Morriston, who was killed in action 21 March 1918.
The ribbon is warp-faced ribbed tabby weave. Thick blue silk wefts and thin orange, white, black and blue warps. It has undergone a finishing process (probably involving a combination of heat and pressure) to give it a moiré (watered silk) effect.
