Wedgwood, Josiah ((1730 - 1795))
Oval creamware dish, press moulded, lobed form with an everted rim. Printed and painted in enamels; rim edged with two lines of black enamel, above a broad border pattern of black on red anthemions. Circular, central reserve, bordered by a red band painted with black with ovals and strokes, the centre printed in black with a draped Greek woman, and over painted in red with a painted matt black ground. Woman in chiton (?), walking facing left, holding a vase shaped pail in her outstretched arms, small red circular motif below pail, reversed red question mark behind her.
