Apprenticed aged 13 to local potteries, before joining A J Wilkinson Royal Staffordhsire Potteries in 1916; trained in all aspects of pottery including design and modelling; under the tutelage of factory owner Colley Shorter, attended Sculpture course at Royal College of Art; went on to become Art Director of A J Wilkinson at age 31; devised Bizarre and Fantasque ranges, inspired by Cubism.)
Plate, white earthenware, circular, slightly inset base with two shallow raised concentric rings, curved sides, lobed rim (18 shallow somewhat irregular lobes); decorated in green enamel with a design of five large leaves round the rim, a stylised flowerhead in the centre and dashes in the space between these.
