Nightdress case (quilted)
James, Doris (Born 2 March 1923 in Senghenydd, the only child of Dai and Daisy James. Lived for most of her life in Abertridwr. Trained as a hairdresser in Cardiff, and ran her own business from her home (High St, Abertridwr). In later years, she worked as a civil servant in the Welsh Office until her retirement in 1982. Died in 2015, aged 92.)
Quilted pale pink satin nightdress case, early 1950s. Made by Doris James (1923-2015), a hairdresser from Abertridwr.
Rectangular, envelope-style. Thinly padded. Made from one continuous piece. Quilting uses pink stitching thread. Central scallop on edge of flap. Flap is quilted with sycamore leaf motif and spiral filling. Single trellis on pouch, back and front. Lined with pale apricot coloured satin. Side edges and edges of flap have pink piping, while edge of inside opening has piping of same fabric as lining.
