Toast-rack

Beswick, John (John Beswick is credited with modernising the Beswick factory after the death of his father and company founder, James Wright Beswick, in 1921.)

Toast rack, white earthenware body with cream coloured glaze, of oval form with four compartments for toast, the ends of the toast rack are bulbous and the three upright divisions are semi-circular in form; each end is transfer printed under the glaze with a stylised circus scene, comprising two black 'stick figure' acrobats in pink dress, each standing on the back of a cantering circus pony, printed in a pale blue with black highlights, above these is a pair of trapeze artists, one male and one female, the top of each divide is hand-painted with a dark red line, tapering at each end.
