Collection of slides forming lecture "Rails in the Slate Industry" by D.R. Geering, UMIST 3rd year Mechanical Engineering Projects, c.1975 (copy of lecture notes in related material).
The cast iron plates below the turnout are re-railing ramps, installed as a safety measure, since a de-railment at speed on an incline of 1 in 3 could be disastrous (Incline C5)
