Piroli, Tommaso (1752 ca-1824)

Cup and saucer, hard-paste porcelain, good translucency and clear glaze, the cup can-shaped, rectangular handle with stylised leaf-form upper terminal, curving downward to a bead at the base, yellow enamel ground, gilt line at the base, upper part reserved on a white ground within waved gilt bands with a running pattern of scrolls and patera; the front of the cup bearing a rectangular panel within a tooled gilt border, decorated in polychrome enamels with a putto standing a wooden raft, drawn by two dolphins, over which he holds a trident; the saucer with flat base and everted sides; yellow ground reserved with a central gilt patera within a gilt band, and rim reserved with a running pattern of scrolls and patera within waved bands, all in gilt.
