Pleating machine
The Anglo-American Pleater Machine for making permanent pleats in fabric. Used by Agnes James of Bargoed, about 1885. Consists of rectangular wooden base covered with blue paper with instructions printed in gold, and containing sets of steel teeth into which fits a holder with wooden runners at sides and rows of flat steel straps which fits on top of base. Wooden pressing board (also with instructions pasted on top) is held on top when cloth is turned over to be pressed with a hot iron to fix pelats. The associated knife which is missing. With a rectangular piece of iron used to weigh down board which may not have been originally part of equipment.
