Seal impression: Royal
Reverse. Equestrian: the king on horse galloping to sinister, his flowing surcoat not visible on this impression; his helmet (vizor closed) bears, for the first time, the lion passant crest of ENGLAND; little remains of his sword, his shield bears, quarterly: three large fleurs-de-lis (probably meant as semy. for FRANCE [Ancient] and the lions of ENGLAND. Bloom comments: ‘A revolution in armour has set in. Plates of metal are now affixed to the exterior of the arms and legs, and the feet are encased in jointed plates’. The caparisoned horse has no apparent reins, though a loose bit or bridle hangs from its mouth. Field diapered with small fleurs-de-lis. Much of the legend is distorted:
