Pot-lid
Pot-lid, earthenware, circular shape with cylindrical flange and convex top; the upperside of the lid decorated with an underglaze polychrome transfer-print of 'Wimbledon, July 1860', showing an outdoors scene with in the foreground a pavillion under which several figures stand, including a female figure pulling a string attached to a rifle which is held in a vice, further figures stand around the pavillion and in the background soldiers are parading, around the bottom of the scene is printed the inscription "WIMBLEDON JULY 2ND 1860", the print enclosed by a narrow circular line border. The glaze crazed, chips to the edge of the lid and to the flange.
