Roman samian bowl
The rim has coarse, even rouletting. Both zones of deocration contain leaf scrolls, the upper with a small heart shaped leaf and an eight pointed rosette, the lower with a fan shaped leaf, six lobed bud and astragalus tendril bindings. A similar heart shaped leaf is used by early potters such as Bassus and Scottius, but ours appears to be slightly smaller. The lower zone is well paralleled on a vessel stamped OFAQVITANI. The fabric is typical of Claudian to Neronian ware.
