H.M.S. VICTORY - Nelson's Flagship (print)
H.M.S. Victory (2,162gt) : Desgined by Sir Thomas Slade and completed at a cost of £100,000. The keel was laid in 1759 and the vessel was launched at Chatham on May 7th 1765. She carried 100 guns. After the campaign of 1779 (war with Spain) her under-water timbers were covered with copper sheathing. The Victory was a flagship of fourteen Admirals and was Nelson's flagship during the Battle of Trafalgar, October 21st 1805. Between 1923 and 1927 the ship was restored to her original condition and now stands in King Charles' Dock, Portsmouth and is used as a museum for Nelson and Trafalgar relics.
