Aberdare, photograph
Aberdare Miners' Executive Committee (Miners' District Committee for Aberdare). The big man sitting in the centre is Charlie Stanton, one of the most picturesque figures of Aberdare political life in the early part of the century. Originally a miners' leader and Agent, he entered Parliament as a successor to Keir Hardie for the Merthyr and Aberdare constituency in 1915. The lady on his right was the Committee Treasurer and believed to be the landlady of the Bute Arms in Victoria Square, which, at that time, was the Committtee's headquarters.
