Newspaper cutting. Letter to the Editor of the Times by Anne Cobden-Sanderson, criticising Liberal MPs who opposed womens' suffrage, and using a quote from her father Richard Cobden in 1838 regarding Chartist activity to draw a parallel. Though critical of some Chartist actions, he compared their principles favourably to those of the government of the day. Found in the Pocket Robert Louis Stevenson book owned by Kate Williams Evans (F2018.25.5.1)
Kate Williams Evans, born in Montgomeryshire in 1866, was sentenced to 2 months hard labour for mailicious damage, having smashed a window in a government building in London. She served 54 days in Holloway Prison in March-April 1912, during which she went on hunger strike.
