Aerial view of Carmeltown, north west of Ebbw Vale, with part of Beaufort to the right (east) and the edge of Rassa to the left (west), viewed from the south west. Rhyd-y-blew Pond in the foreground with the edge of Small Ryd-y-blew Pond to the right (south east). The prominent railway viaduct in the middle distance is Beaufort Viaduct on the Dowlais to Abergavenny line. Closer and below is the smaller Rhyd Viaduct on the former LMS Ebbw Vale Branch which joined the larger line at Ebbw Vale Junction Signal Box, visible at the junction. Right (east) of Beaufort Viaduct is Beaufort Sanitary Pipe & Brick Works and beyond (north) is Carno Reservoir.
