Figure of William Shakespeare, white earthenware with a blue tinted glaze, standing on a high oval base, inscribed in gilt script. Figure in Elizabethan dress of black slippers, white hose, white knee breeches striped in gilt, white close fitting jacket with gilt buttons and ties and gilt tie at neck of shirt, long white robe, gilt spotted, with a black spotted fur collar. Figure in a thoughtful pose; legs crossed at knee, right hand on hip and holding a closed red bound book with yellow edged pages, figure leaning forward and to left, resting left elbow on three (two red sandwiching one black) books with yellow edged pages, the books resting on a scroll inscribed in black dashes, all placed on pillar decorated with marbled panels of light pink, blue and green, and overlaid with red scales.
