Smock
Round linen smock-frock, embroidered with linen thread. Worn by a shepherd on Lord Lisburne's estate at Trawsgoed, Ceredigion, in the late 1800s. It was made for him by his mother as a wedding present, and was meant to be worn at fairs and special occasions.
Square collar with single button fastening at back and front (one bone, one metal). One button opening at cuffs. One inverted pocket. The smocking stitches are cable, outline double cable and wave. The embroidery is feather stitching in lines and waves on the collar, yokes, front and back boxes.
