Teapot

Baker, Bevans and Irwin, Glamorgan Pottery (1813-1839)

Teapot, earthenware, standing on a flaring spreading waisted foot with lobed foot-rim, bulbous body with four evenly spaced fluted sections, a raised bulge around the shoulder, concave neck, flaring lip-rim with inner flange, the lip-rim lobed, curving spout with foliate moulding at its base, the tip of the spout broken off, the handle broken off and missing, the cover missing; transfer-printed in green with to the exterior sides of the body the 'Campania' pattern, an oriental scene showing in the foreground a figure seated upon an elephant with a standing figure to one side, in the background buildings on islands across an expanse of water and distant hills, an urn and trees to either side of the scene, border to the shoulder and lip-rim of foliate scrolls on a stippled green ground, a spray of flowers to the base of the spout and a smaller spray to the top of the spout, dentilled border to the foot-rim.
