Cup and saucer

Höchst Porcelain Factory

Cup, hard-paste porcelain, inset base within a flattened-off foot-rim, cylindrical flaring sides, a pattern of short flutes around the foot-rim, square-shouldered loop handle with rope-work moulding to the lower part of the handle; the exterior sides of the cup covered with a blue ground over which has been painted an elaborate gilt decoration creating a mesh-like pattern with blue dots showing through and with raised gilt swags around the middle of the body, the flutes picked out in gilt, a wavy gilt line around the upper body, gilt bands around the foot-rim and lip-rim, a large gilt dot to the interior bottom of the cup, the handle painted gilt. A small chip to the lip-rim. Saucer, hard-paste porcelain, inset base within a flattened-off foot-rim, flaring sides, a pattern of short flutes around the foot-rim; the sides and edge of the well covered with a blue ground over which has been painted an elaborate gilt decoration creating a mesh-like pattern with blue dots showing through , a border of stylized gilt flower heads around the edge of the well, the centre of the well left white and painted in polychrome enamels with a group of fruit including lemons, grapes and an apple, the flutes around the foot-rim painted gilt, a gilt edge to the rim.
