0:06 They used to play sancul, a game using a piece of wood like a very pointed cricket bat. It was played with just with one bat (no ball), and the aim was to throw it so it landed within a circle. They also used to play hide and seek. In the summer evenings they used to go and pick fruit, not only from the trees in their own village but also in the neighbouring villages. They would pick plums, peaches and quinces. He remembers Count Cigolotti, whose family were landowners in Montereale. They had high walls around their properties. They sold the land to the people in the village, who were very happy to build houses. Their great ambition was to own property, especially a house.
