Awl
Lip-work tool used to push bramble into the straw. Used by Benjamin Evans, Bwlch-llan, west Wales, 1900s.
This is one of the tools used by Benjamin Evans in his lip-work. The awl is made of bone and was used to insert bramble into the straw rolls. The best awl was said to be the bone from the hind leg of a horse.
