Iron Age / Roman iron needle
Sewing needle of circular cross section , falattened at one end to provide space for an elongated eye. Above this it appears to have snapped off and may orginally have had a short spike such as the Iron Age example from Hambledon Hill (Manning 1985, p35, PL14).
