Roman painted wall plaster
This small fragment of plaster was originally painted dark red, although now its shade is inconsistent.
Other fragments of painted plaster were found during the earlier Whitton excavations in the south range as well as the north and east rangers. (Jarret 1981, p.231)
Jarret (ibid) saw plastered walls as a common feature of the Whitton villa and pre-3rd century AD.
