M.V. HENDONHALL (7359gt). Built 1944 as EMPIRE GENERAL by Willliam Doxford & Sons Ltd., Sunderland for MoWT, managed by Hain Steamship Co., St. Ives. 1947 – Sold to West Hartlepool Steam Navigation Co., West Hartlepool, and renamed HENDONHALL. While chartered to Palm Line, she suffered fire damage to the wheelhouse at Sapele, Nigeria and ran ashore as she left the port. Temporary repairs enabled her to return to the UK for more extensive work. 1959 – Sold to Lebanesa Ltda SA, Panama and renamed TAXIARCHIS, managed by L.Nocomis of Greece, but under the Lebanese flag. She collided with the German freighter CARL JULIUS in the St. Lawrence Seaway in June of that year causing major damage to her bow. 1961 – Renamed TONY C. (same owner).
