Pyxis
Dillwyn & Co., Cambrian Pottery (1811 - 1817 and 1824 - 1850)
Pyxis or small cylindrical pot, earthenware, in the shape of an ancient Greek pyxis, spreading at the foot, the main body cylindrical and slightly inset from the foot, flaring out to a flange at the shoulder on which the cover would rest, vertical rim; the decoration reserved against a black enamel ground so that the red earthenware body is revealed, this then transfer-printed in black, egg and dart border to the foot-rim, a running border of leaves issuing small clusters of fruit to the main body, red bands to the upper and lower parts of the main body, chevron border to the interior lip-rim.
