Piltdown man forgery (replica)
Cast of the Piltdown man forgery with an adjustable stand. The fragmentary cranium and jaw were thought to represent the 'missing link' between humand and paes when discovered in 1912. It was demonstrated by Weiner in 1953 (Weiner 1953, 2000) that the bones had been artificially aged and that the mandible belonged to an ape.
