KOMET, glass negative
Photograph of a painting by the Australian marine artist R.A. Borstel showing a port broadside view of the 3 masted ship KOMET, 1912.
The Norwegian ship KOMET, formerly the BEACON ROCK, was built in Port Glasgow in 1892. She was a frequent visitor to Australia, and took coal from Newcastle NSW to Chile in 1912, the year the painting is dated (Shipping News, Sydney Morning Herald, 11 April and 29 July 1912). Formerly recorded as being the ARMES? On the original negative the painting of the KOMET is superimposed over another painting, but only the bottom section of this painting is visible and it is dated Sunday, 26 March 1905.
