Roman ceramic tegula with boot print and stamp
Tegula with boot print showing the imprint of individual hobnails and a LEG II AVG (Second Augustan Legion) stamp.
The imbrex and tegula were overlapping roof tiles. They were made of fired clay. The tegula was a flat tile, which was laid flat upon the roof, while the imbrex was a semi-cylindrical roofing tile like a half-pipe, laid over the joints between the tegulae.
