Basket
Gwyntell or cintell made from hazel and willow. Basket by James Walters, Farmers, representative of the gwyntell, used for carrying animal fodder and picking.
At one time, there were basket makers in every farming community. They needed few tools but a great deal of skill to make baskets for use in the everyday work of the farm. One such maker was James Walters, a farmer from west Wales, who made this gwyntell or cintell. He made it from willow and split hazel, and it was used for a variety of tasks such as feeding farm animals.
