Plain white tie-on waist pocket, late 1800s. Belonged to Miss E. J. Davies of Quarry Villas, Tredegar - a dressmaker who trained at Jolly's of Bath.
The front and back of this pocket are each made of one piece of satin weave cotton. Stitch marks on the back show position of an internal compartment now missing. The opening is bound with plain weave cotton. The pocket is mostly sewn by machine. There is hand stitching to attach and reattach the lengths of tape that forms the ties. There are large and small stains on the front and back. [Description by Barbara Burman: Pockets of History Project]
