Iron Age / Roman copper alloy tankard handle
Complete but fragmentary and fragile handle attached to a wooden stave. Seen in block x-ray only. LLTR 19 (4) SF3 is a fragment of copper alloy sheet with a break edge and a triangular corner, likely to be a broken dovetail handle fragment from this artefact. Although cast, not of sheet metal, this handle is stylistically very similar to a form of Horn (2015) type V sheet metal handle (see Horn, 2015, fig. 9, for similar examples from the Seven Sisters Hoard, Neath Port Talbot (see also, Savory, 1976, Fig. 39, p109 and p62-3), and Chew Park, Somerset). Deposition dates for the type are cited as typically AD 70-140, where dateable.
