Seal impression: Durham Episcopal
Within a canopied niche, St.Cuthbert standing in pontificals with tall jewelled mitre holding St.Oswald's head. In side niches, dext. St.Peter with his key and a book; sin. St.Andrew with his saltire cross and a book. In base, a shield; a cross tripartite and fretty, or 'a cross of three upright wattles, crossed and interwoven by three more' (he was the son of a basket weaver), SKIRLAW. (Information of Dr. Michael Siddons). The legend shows the transition to a smaller, closer, Black Letter script.
