Medieval ceramic floor tile
Lewis Group 16, number 202 Slip-on impression. Tile adjoining 201 to left; stag running towards left, being harried by two hounds.
The tile, in combination with tiles 63.469/16 & 17 (which are all joined together), depicts a hunting scene of two hunting dogs bringing down a runaway stag, closely pursued by the rest of the pack of dogs (talbots), while the kennel-man in charge of the relay of dogs blows a warning signal on his horn which is slung on a baldrick around his neck. The tiles are glazed and partially restored with plaster of paris. The length of 408mm recorded in this entry is of the three tiles joined together
