Mug
Large mug, of buff stoneware, standing on a flat base, with banding above the foot of the body, the body with slightly tapering cylindrical sides, with incised double banding below lip rim; high loop strap handle, the lower terminal with ogee moulding; an iron-brown wash to the upper portions of the body and handle with a thin, clear salt-glaze to the whole body, giving a freckled appearance to the coloured portions; the interior with the clear salt-glaze and some colouration to inner lip rim; impressed with the excise mark WR beneath a crown within a circle to the left of the upper terminal of handle, inscribed with 'James Beacham 1723' in looped handwriting to the central body.
