Roman copper alloy knee brooch
It has a fan shaped plate head and a spring, with an internal chord and an axial bar, housed between two lugs in a hooded recess to the rear of the head. The bow is of inverted baluster form; the plate has a closely scalloped edge and is decorated with three impressed rings and dots motifs. Though close to the Continental form the spring arrangement and the scalloped edge to the plate rather than the use of incised zig zag line ornament on the plate itself suggest that the Usk example may have been manufactured in Britain.
