Late Iron Age copper alloy plaque
Copper alloy, slightly rhomboid-shaped plaque decorated with two similar, if not identical, design elements. Each design element consists of an embossed, wiry, S-shaped scroll which terminates in small raised roundels. Embossed, comma-shaped scrolls, similar in form to the wiry S-shaped scroll, continue the curve from the roundels to give the overall impression of two conjoined circles (overall length of design 36mm, width 18mm, minimum distance apart of two design elements 4mm). Three of the plaque's sides have a repoussé border (width 1.5mm) the fourth edge having a distinct groove running at a slight angle to the edge 1.5-3mm from the edge suggesting that it was overlapped at this end by another plaque. There is one small fixing hole in the centre of the plaque (diameter c.1mm) around which is a circular impression (diameter c.2.5mm) presumably caused by the head of a stud. One corner is torn and damaged. Similar to 44.32/79 and 44.294/12.
Bronze plaque with Celtic Art decoration, 1-100 CE.

Find Information
Site Name: Llyn Cerrig Bach, Cae Ifan Farm
Notes: Found during the construction of an airfield at RAF Station Valley. Some certainly, the rest probably, from a wet meadow which formed the margin of Llyn Cerrig Bach. The exact depth below the grassy surface at which the objects were deposited is not known. The bog was excavated to a maximum depth of 20 feet. A few objects were found on the spot, after the peaty deposit had been won from the boggy margin of the lake. The rest, with the exception of 44.32/58, were found on that portion of the adjacent aerodrome on which the peat from this site had been spread. Animal bones were associated with the deposit and many metal objects were stained with vivianite.
