Hat
Working dress uniform hat issued in 1995 to an Air Traffic Controller. It travelled with her on postings to RAF stations at Cranwell, Linton, West Drayton, Uxbridge, Shawbury and Valley.
Blue-grey hat with brim turned up at centre-front and oval, flat crown. Wide black tape head band and badge stitched to centre-front. Badge has central bird motif (made from gold coloured metal) and raised metal work embroidered crown above. Lined with plain grey cotton fabric (constructed from oval crown and a second strip lining the sides). Inner sweat band of black Petersham ribbon (width 2.5cm). Brim has narrow lines of machine-stitched quilting along its circumference (lines are 3mm apart). Brim is 6cm wide at centre-front and 8cm at centre-back. Hat is mostly machine stitched, but the badge is sewn on by hand and the inner sweat band is also stitched on by hand (only along its lower edge).
