Roman copper alloy plate brooch
Hinged composite plate brooch. Disc surrounded by eight equally spaced circular lugs, seven of these attach dirictly to the edge of the disc but the eighth sits at the apex of a triangle whose base fills the gap between the lugs to either side. This triangle conceals the catchplate. The centre of the disc is open, this appears to be an original feature rather than the result of damage, out from this the disc has two concentric cells for enamelling. All trace of enamel has gone from the inner of these but the outer contains traces of white dots on a blue enamel background. The triangle and lugs were also clearly originally enamelled but insufficient survives to suggest the scheme of decoration.
