Sampler
Sampler, no text, in large frame.
LINEN, embroidered with coloured silks in cross stitch. In the middle there is a house. Above, within garlands, are the inscriptions: "AS / 18", "AS / 19", presumably being the initials of worker and date 1819. Around are conventional floral and other designs including Adam and Eve, the Tree and Serpent, crowned lion with sword, stags, peacock, crowned swan, a monstrance between flowering plants and candlesticks, stars, hearts. There is a border of a wavy stem with acorns and small flowers, varying on each side. (Source: Guide to the Collection of Samplers & Embroideries (Cardiff: National Museum of Wales, 1939) by F.G. Payne).
