Early Medieval stone quern
Upper quernstone of an irregular oval shape with approximately 45% of the original circumference surviving (the rest having fractured away). The stone has been severely worn, with a strong circular wear pattern visible on the grinding surface. This has been reconditioned, having been pecked in order to roughen the worn grinding surface. The central hole is fairly cylindrical for most of the depth of the stone, narrowing from 55 mm to 35 mm.
