Helmet
White painted steel helmet with 'POLICE' written in the centre and a crown above. Canvas fittings inside for around the head, and fabric chin strap attached by metal loops and brackets. Stamped I /1939 / R.O.(C?) around one of the brackets, possibly denoting Rubery Owen & Co of Leeds as manufacturer. Formerly of Gwent Police Museum collection.
Helmets like this, although called tin helmets, were in fact made of steel. They protected Police officers' heads from bomb damage and during air raids
